A classic 1943 blotter to celebrate April 19th, Bicycle Day
On this day in 1943 Albert Hofmann for the first time intentionally took a 250 microgram dose of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)
Then as was customary in Basel, Switzerland, at the time, he while tripping on the LSD made the journey home by bicycle.
He was later quoted saying:
“Little by little I could begin to enjoy the unprecedented colors and plays of shapes that persisted behind my closed eyes. Kaleidoscopic, fantastic images surged in on me, alternating, variegated, opening and then closing themselves in circles and spirals, exploding in colored fountains, rearranging and hybridizing themselves in constant flux.”
